Review of California Split (1974) by Walter M — 27 Aug 2006

I love Robert Altman, so let me just take this opportunity to praise him. Before [i]California Split [/i]the last film of his that I'd seen was [i]Gosford Park[/i], and boy is that movie delicious and awesome.

This one, however, not so yummy. The acting is great, and the characters, if depressing, are really believable. I don't know, maybe a film [i]this[/i] desolate just cannot please me. Something about it makes me feel unclean, just by watching it. So much so, that I didn't even really want to finish it. I love the ending, but still, would maybe have rather not seen it. Is is successful? Probably.
