Review of The Kid with a Bike (2011) by Ola S — 28 Jan 2012
Cyril lives at a home for young boys. He's not the kind of boy you would chose. He's disturbed, slightly violent, full of tension. One of the reasons for it is the father, who has left him there and wants no contact whatsoever. And makes it quite clear to the poor boy.
But the angel-like hairdresser Samantha starts to take care of him on Sundays, but he meets this gang. It's not the first time you see such a story on the screen, but rarely you find such a struggle between forgiveness and provocations. And it's not the forgiver who is the victim in this fable-like movie, which anyway has a steady ground in realism.
When it's all over, we're still wondering if forgiveness is possible, but it can be. Also in this Belgian real life saga taking place in a movie theater.
