Review of The Karate Kid Part III (1989) by Ruben A — 02 Apr 2012
Epic ending to an epic classic.
This time its all about revenge for the villians, and they attack with a much stronger tactic. Trying to seperate Daniel and Myagi, breaking their bond its brilliant and plays out nice, mostly thanks to Thomas Ian Griffith as Mr Silver, a class A jerk and royal two face prick. Hes very over the top but his eccentric personality is addictive and compelling to watch. His intention wasn't clear, but it felt like he was trying to corrupt Daniel and cause him to feel guilt, and with all that inner turmoil Daniel wouldnt be focused for the fight.
I think because this wasn't clear, alot of people, spoke poorly of the movie.
Maybe they just didnt get the significance of this film.
The way I see it , is that the heart and soul of the Karate Kid movie's is the special relationship betweeen Mr. Myagi and Daniel, and before this movie, nothing had ever come between them, but this time that is being tested and threatned, which makes it even more significant. Its also very reflective of real life the way even the best of friends tend to drift apart.
The scene where Daniel yells and lashes out at Myagi causing him to cry, is very strong and memorable.
There wasnt nearly as much humor or innocence this time, but it still had a strong spirit, a message, and morale. I dont see how people could love the 1st film so much and despise this one, they really aren't much different.
I really enjoyed this film and wish people would reconsider it.
