Review of The Iron Lady (2011) by Tom M — 02 Jan 2014
A character study of power, and will vs. inevitable mortality and decline. Streep is, of course, awesome. The film itself is surprisingly and refreshingly focused on her life out of the public eye in her declining years, revealing a view that even the greats are taken down by time and yet can still resist being dominated by it.
This point of view probably disappointed audiences looking for something more focused on periods of her many controversies, victories and crisis'. Of course all those are touched upon in this film, but as recollections of a past life bubbling up through the hallucinations of dementia.
