Review of The Invisible Man Returns (1940) by Byron B — 29 Sep 2009
Solid sequel, but Whale's direction and the first movie's scope are sorely missing. "Return" is basically a wrongfully convicted fugitive storyline, with the twist being that the fugitive is invisible.
The mystery isn't too complicated, but there are some good scenes. I particularly liked the police detective who smokes cigars to make sure the invisible man isn't near him; and the invisible man's escape from a police filled mansion while it's raining outside is fun.
But the sense of humour from the first film is sorely missing.
