Review of The Hurricane (1999) by Frederick G — 06 Oct 2007
A truly inspiring story. One mans attempt to survive his imprisonment after being falsly accused of murder and his 30 odd year struggle to prove himself innocent. The story shows a sad reality. In order to survive his imprisonment, he has to want for nothing, and love nothing.
Doing so would give him hope, and in prison, that would destroy his soul. As a result, he isolates himself and ends all emotional cotact with anyone he has loved, until a young boy writes to him in prison after reading his book, and this triggers off a change in The Hurricane that finally allows the prisoner to once again allow himself to dream of feeling emotions.
A riveting story. I truly identified with the story and how during a crisis, you have to isolate yourself from that which you love so that you do not suffer more pain, but in doing so, you lose your humanity, and in the long run, it is our humanity that is the most important thing in life.
