Review of The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1939) by Sylvester E — 10 Oct 2010
I was a bit freaked out by Quasimodo at first, and I do feel the tension in the movie even though it's such an old movie that most people around me do not watch.
The movie's really beautiful and I especially love the scene where Esmeralda and Quasimodo actually interact with each other in the bell tower. It fits the description of the atmosphere conveyed in the book.
I really feel for Quasimodo as well, and the fact that the movie's very tragic and bittersweet just makes me love it even more.
Laughton, who becomes Quasimodo, and the man who becomes Frollo are extremely good actors who are able to convey the sense of justice and love that are prevalent in the book. I honestly can't find any more man who fits perfectly to become Frollo.
Such a true classic!
10/10.
