Review of The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1939) by Joshua L — 07 Nov 2011
Best lines: "Why was I not made of stone like thee?" and "I never realized till now how ugly I am. It's because you're so beautiful.".
A classic film! EPIC! The best of Laughton, and the best among all films about the hunchback. The best thing about this is the acting. Can't help but admire Charles Laughton's Quasimodo, not to mention Sir Cedric Hardwicke's Frollo. Laughton delivered an unforgettable, heartwarming, and heartbreaking performance. His Quasimodo is easily and definitely the best. Set aside the 1996 version. I'd stick to this one, in which the 1996 version itself is based on.
