Review of The Hudsucker Proxy (1994) by Michael O — 27 Aug 2008
A fairly bad and really annoying outing by the Coen Brothers. They try going for Raimi's hyperkenetic, comic book visual style so hard it's plain confusing. Who are they trying to be? Billy Wilder? Preston Sturges? It doesn't work.
They should've let Raimi direct instead, he's the man for this kind of work. They proved once with Raising Arizona that they can make comic book movies but maybe that was just luck. As lucky as dreaming up the hula hoop.
