Review of The House on Sorority Row (1982) by Jason D — 02 Jan 2009
The House on Sorority Row is an above average 80's slasher gem about 7 sorority sisters who, before throwing their graduation party, decide to pull a prank on their mean house mother (who conveniently has a checkered past).
As luck would have it, the girls accidentally murder their house mother and decide to throw her body in their dirty pool. And so, the fun begins, as the girls nervously try to enjoy their party, which is cut short when someone starts taking them all out one by one in various and surprisingly gruesome ways.
Like I said, this is a very good slasher with a good story and decent acting, though 95% of the people in this film are unlikable. The movie manages to pull off a few surprises and keeps it entertaining, and even throws in a nice, little ending to top it off.
The villain winds up being a terrific slasher that could have easily been franchised and developed in several sequels before sending him to space to kill space sorority chicks, but the powers that be decided to keep this one modest and leave it as one sole adventure.
I really enjoyed this film. Do yourself a favor and watch it before the abortion of a remake comes out later this year.
