Review of The Hills Have Eyes (1977) by Jason M — 08 Jul 2007
If anyone was unfortunate enough to see the wretched remake, well check this one out for some genuine scares. Craven makes the "civilized" family not very sympathetic. I don't know how well Craven's point about the civilized family being as savage as the mutant family is made, because the civilized family is fighting for survival, so that would make anyone kill.
But with that said, as sheer visceral horror, this movie is ferocious and nasty. Craven definitely ratchets up the tension very effectively, and there are a few laughs as well. All in all, it is a harrowing and intense 90 minutes, and what else can you ask for.
