Review of The Hills Have Eyes (1977) by Darrin C — 06 Jan 2015
I often saw the poster for the Hills Have Eyes when I was a kid and I have to admit, the bald guy scared the bejeezus us out of me, but now that I am all growed up and bearded, finding this at my local library, I thought I would give it a shot. And I have to say, The Hills Have Eyes is a fairly well crafted horror movie. The villains, who are basically super inbred redneck cannibals, do a good job at creeping you out as they terrorize a family who was stupid enough to get their car and trailer stuck in the dessert, even after a creepy gas station attendant told them to go a different way. The hill people basically rape, kill and eat members of the family, and then kidnap their baby for the desert later which puts the family on the offensive. Wes Craven did a decent job directing, making you think about what you would do in the place of the family, and the effects are surprising good for such a low budget film. This is not really all that scary now, but I am pretty sure I would have not liked it as a little Bearded Movie Guy.
