Review of The Haunting (1963) by John W — 09 Sep 2007
A very efficient scary movie. It is a masterpiece of subtlety, where you never even see the ghosts, and even in the end the events are left questioned, and the viewer can be left unsure if ghosts even exist.
But it is quite the terrifying film, even for 1963. The only qualm I have is the script at some points. The characters sometimes seem both childlike and over-exuberant over each other, particularly to me when Eleanor meets Theo.
A little strange how the dialogue jumps forward in that scene. But still, an effective film.
