Review of The Haunting (1963) by Dave P — 30 Mar 2008
Brilliant. (Nothing like the idiotic remake.) No overt violence but subtle threats always lurking in the shadows; Wise was a very fine director. Harris is astonishingly good as the vulnerable heroine and Bloom manages to outwit the censorship of the period with her portrayal of the lesbian Theo.
"Nobody will hear you when you scream. In the dark.".
