Review of The Haunting (1963) by Calvin C — 22 Oct 2011
I think not seeing something is scarier than seeing it. "The Haunting" plays with out sense of hearing and sight as director Robert Wise uses creepy music and even more creepy sounds to scare us into thinking that it may or may not be in our heads. The film is dated and is more a talking picture than a full-out horror film. But the atomospheric feel and the creepy house does have its effect. It reminded me of an extended "Twilight Zone" episode and that is a good thing. A good old horror classic that will make you not want to sleep with the lights off.
Grade: A-.
