Review of The Great Ziegfeld (1936) by Masorad ( — 01 Nov 2009
I'm a big fan of the Thin Man films and when I seen that this had William Powell in it, I just had to see it. His character is absolutely nothing like Nick, in the Thin Man, which I was happy to see.
William Powell just has this way of making you not want to take your eyes off him. It isn't that he says or doesn't anything too shocking, but it seems like he is always on the verge of doing so.
I'm not big on musicals, but this one has some numbers in it that are just amazing. Like the scene that is one shot that goes up this monsterous circling stair case that is almost cartoony the way the people are dancing on it.
Hard to explain how amazing it really is. Do yourself a favor and watch this film.
