Review of The Great Ziegfeld (1936) by Benjamin W — 15 Oct 2010
Now, normally I would say that you should cut the big song and dance numbers from a bio-pic, but this is definitely the exception. Sure, if you cut them out, it would be a much more manageable movie to watch (since it's nearly 3 hours long), but then you'd miss out on the fantastic spectacle of some of these numbers.
I think it was the cinematographer in me that loved the presentation and the mechanical engineer in me that loved how the stage moved. At any rate, an excellent film deserving of its "Best Picture" status.
