Review of The Giver (2014) by Reve K — 26 Jul 2015
I think this is a classic piece of sci fy. It was well done, thought provoking and visually interesting. The fact that the city was isolated and no one had entered or exited for so long seems a little hard to believe, but it is a sci fy and it is normal for one to need to stretch one's imagination some in order to embrace the whole story of a sci fi.
The reason it is classic sci fy is because it deals with more than just a pretty set or exciting action. The movie theme dealt with a deeper subject about society that one can continue to think about long after the movie is over.
I'd give this movie at least a 4, perhaps not a 5 at first glance, but the more I watch it, the more I like it, and I think it got a bad rap by the critics, so I'm giving it a 5 to make up for that.
Perhaps it is not the superficial, sexual, action, blood and gore movie that today's audience wants, but that doesn't mean that it's not good at what it does, which is make one think, and I wish we had more of those kinds of movies.
I also had no problem with the acting. It was a sound Sci fi classic that makes one think, and a good adventure. It is becoming one of my favorites.
