Review of The Giver (2014) by Jake C — 30 Mar 2018
Based upon a popular book I've not read and now have no intention of reading, this is the story of a dystopian suburbia where no one can act. The lead character of Jonas is unfortunately portrayed by Brenton Thwaites. Why does this guy keep getting work? He's got good looks but absolutely no acting chops. In fact, a pork chop would probably have given a better performance. Jeff Bridges (who should know better) chooses to speak like he's just had a root canal. Meryl Streep is barely in this movie so I'm not going to say anything about her performance.
On the positive side, if you want to look at it as such, the movie is so shallow it skims along at a decent pace and doesn't overstay its welcome.
