Review of The Gift (2015) by Tim M — 22 May 2017
At the conclusion of the first act of "The Gift" staring Jason Bateman and Joel Edgerton, I was not quite sure if I was watching a thriller in the fatal attraction mode or a developing love story between two people who were meant for each other. It turns out neither. What I was watching was an original psychological drama with great acting and a screenplay to match. Edgerton debuts his writing and directing prowess in this masterfully mysterious feature. Simon (Jason Bateman) and his wife Robyn (Rebecca Hall) move and begin a new life with the hopes of starting a family. A chance meeting with Gordo (Edgerton) leads to tension between the two lead actors.
Just when you think you get the answers to what will happen next the movie changes the questions. It's Terrific. Final score: 8.0/10.
