Review of The Gift (2015) by Richard S — 09 Jul 2018
The Gift begins as a fairly average creepy stalker thriller, a story that has been done before many times. However, do not let that put you off because the ending ups the ante and gets very dark very quickly, especially when you realise what the gift of the title is.
It also has great character development as the viewer's perception of who the real bad guy is changes throughout the film. Joel Egerton was unrecognisable under all of the make-up and he was definitely the highlight, as the slightly strange and possibly unhinged Gordo.
He played well against Jason Bateman who often finds himself in comedies but here is a very different kind of character. Rebecca Hall was also decent as the only one who feels sympathy for the one the rest fear.
Well worth seeing.
