Review of The Gift (2015) by Matt C — 07 Oct 2018
Joel Edgerton has come a long way since those 'The Secret Life of Us' days back in the early noughties (niche reference there). This his Directorial debut, borrows from a lot of the classic suspense thrillers that have gone before like 'Fatal Attraction', 'The Hand that Rocks the Cradle' etc whilst also adding a lot of its own ideas.
They don't all work (if you stop and actually think at any point some are a little preposterous) and some, particularly part of the ending feel in a little poor taste but there is enough here to make you wonder if he could well be a decent filmmaker to come.
I was intrigued and held my breath on a Sunday night.
