Review of The Gift (2015) by Paul G — 30 Dec 2015
A well crafted thriller that has vague echoes of the 90s cycle of yuppie nightmare/home invasion thrillers. the film opens with a chance meeting between a successful corporate manager and his wife and Gordo, a guy he went to school with 20 years before. As Gordo tries to insinuate his way into the couple's perfect life, his attentions become increasingly unwelcome.
Director Joel Edgerton builds the tension slowly, playing with the audience's empathy with the characters so as to create a morally provocative ending. Stylish and gripping.
