Review of The Ghost and Mrs. Muir (1947) by Ldy C — 26 Apr 2008
I adored the first half of this movie: strong resilient protagonist, blustering but good-hearted ghost, and an atmosphere that manages to be creepy but with plenty of humor. In fact, the first half is one of my favorite old movies ever.
But then. . .something happens. And I don't just mean the inevitable depressing turn. For one thing, the heroine turns into a doormat. Anyway, overall I still really like it, but I'm still pondering its message.
Worth seeing, for sure. It's thought provoking too, even though it's silly and funny at times. I guess I'd describe it as poignant.
