Review of The Getaway (1972) by Keenan S — 06 Apr 2018
The Getaway is one of the greatest action films I've ever seen. It is one of those rare films where the stars align perfectly - it has the grit of director, Sam Peckinpah, the charisma and coolness of Steve McQueen, the sexiness of Ali MacGraw, a slick jazz score by music extraordinaire, Quincy Jones, and somehow, despite being style over substance, it is still a perfect, magnificent, glorious, thrilling action film from beginning to end.
Sure, the plot doesn't always make sense, but you won't care, you're gonna be having too much fun as The Getaway takes you on one hell of a ride that never dulls and never lets up until the end.
I was gripped, I was thrilled, I found it sexy, and I loved every damn minute of it. You'd be hard-pressed to find an action film of this sort of quality. It's the very definition of slick and cool.
I consider it to be one of the 50 greatest films I've ever seen and if you consider yourself a fan of action films, you owe it to yourself to see this genre masterpiece. It is absolutely fucking glorious.
