Review of The Getaway (1972) by Lachlan D — 31 Oct 2013
There is some good 2nd unit direction going on this film however everything appealing about it is immediately cancelled out by the films inappropriately breezy tone. It needed to be darker, messier and more gruesome.
I wanted a more visceral insight into the underworld of bank robbers. In addition, given the subject matter of the film, the good guys were far too clean shaven. If they're the type of people who are willing to get involved in this business they must have some flaws.
Just because audience is suppose to empathize with the main character doesn't mean you have to fucking make them ghandi. It needed to be more like the Wild Bunch or Straw Dogs.
