Review of The Gay Divorcee (1934) by Wendy B — 06 May 2009
The Gay Divorcee has literally the same cast and essentially the same plot as Top Hat...and that's just fine and dandy with me! Ginger Rogers plays Mimi Glossop, a young and unhappily married woman.
Her lawyer hires a "professional" to pose as her lover in order to be caught in flagrante delicto and therefore obtain a divorce from her husband. Unfortunately, things go awry and she confuses American dancer Guy Holden (Fred Astaire) as the hired "corespondent".
Of course, Holden actually does love Mimi. Despite the mix-up, much dancing and much lovering ensues!
