Review of The Fountain (2006) by Daniele C — 30 Apr 2015
Like an abstract metaphysical poem adapted onscreen, "The Fountain" hardly makes any logical sense, but is rich with symbolism, emotion and feeling. Armed with some great performances (Hugh Jackman is phenomenal) Aronofsky paints an enchanting reflection on death that makes for an enrapturing experience but will befuddle and confuse the mind as it struggles to make sense of a story that may dwell in the abstract too much for its own good.
What makes "The Fountain" so enrapturing, its poeticism, is also its greatest flaw when allowed to run out of control.
