Review of The Florida Project (2017) by Omar B — 07 Apr 2018
The Florida Project is so close to being my favorite film of all time, but unfortunately, Persepolis still holds that spot on my list. Either way, The Florida Project is a beautifully, wonderful and heartbreaking piece of work. All of the cast, except for Willem Dafoe, is new to the film industry, but it shows that they pour their herats and souls into their roles, which can defenitely be seen thoughout the whole movie.
Although a film's purpose is to entertain the audience, The Florida Project is meant for more than just entertainment; it is also meant to shed light on the hardships of lower-class America and the problems that come along with it. This, of course, makes it an important piece of work, but also a heartbreaking one due to the fact that these are very real situations happening at the moment.
I may be a little biased since I can relate to the situation and the characters, especially Moonee's friends, on a personal level. Nonetheless, I stand by my statement that this movie is one of the best movies of 2017 and I can also clearly state that Sean Baker is my favorite director in the film industry today.
