I saw the 2d version, hadn't read the book or any reviews. I was impressed and thought it was an outstanding movie. Some have called it old fashioned and in some ways it is; no sex, little profanity or violence.
The idea of an officer ordering a man to take a crew and small boat into a storm like that the crew of 363500 faced is old fashioned but it really happened and the hero really married his sweetheart. If you go, stay for the end credits.
