Review of The Finest Hours (2016) by Cole W — 14 Jan 2018
Stranded sailors have five hours to be rescued by young coast guard Bernie and his last minute crew. Within these hours, Bernie's worried fiance Merriam does everything she can to ensure his safety.
The design and costumes depict the 1950's in a clear and fun way making the movie visually engaging, however the story is dull and repetitive at times. The efforts for suspense are dwindled by its minimal character detail.
Throughout the movie I kept asking myself, who are these characters again and why are they important? A weak backstory left me uninterested. I felt like I was rewatching the same scenes flip back and forth with slow dynamics.
A story that could have been thrilling was told in a boring way with the only excitement being the visuals.
