Review of The Finest Hours (2016) by Toribio H — 21 Jul 2017
A film of two faces, on one hand it is an action packed survival film on cold ravaging seas filled with impressive visuals (not necessarily believable), one the other hand it is a cheesy haunted-man-becomes-a-redeemed-hero melodrama that oftentimes feels forced in its attempts to score pity points from its audience.
It feels forced because you are really not that invested in the characters and by the time they come asking viewers for tears, the empathy meter mostly points towards cringe. In the end Chris Pine's charismatic acting saves this glossed up reenactment of true events.
