Review of The Fighter (2009) by Maciej W — 11 Oct 2009
Interesting movie with nice fight sequences as well as some social insight.
We follow a high school student Aicha whose passion is kung fu but at the same time she comes from a strict Turkish immigrant family that has a lot of rules and expectations for her. She must decide whether she will pursue her own happiness or obey her families wishes and traditions.
The story is good and brings up a lot of everyday life issues. The characters are very convincing but this being a foreign production none of the actors are recognisable, for me that's definetly a plus.
The fight scenes look really nice, the music is good as well. The movie has an interesting story, deeper characters with some dilemmas and a message. No car chases, no explosions and any of that fancy stuff if you can even consider that a flaw. Good and really enjoyable movie.
