Review of The Exorcist III (1990) by Patrick M — 02 Sep 2012
THE EXORCIST is one of the finest horror films of all time. THE EXORCIST II came out and I have not been able to sit through that trash in its entirety despite two honest attempts. It's an abomination of film.
This film, THE EXORCIST III: LEGION couldn't be worst and is much closer to a true sequel and it helps that the original author of the novel, William Peter Blatty, wrote and directed this one. I'd love to give it 3.
5/5 stars due to the taught pacing, the rather solid dialogue and some truly scary sequences that will scare some viewers (though nowhere close as William Friedkin was able to bring to the screen back in 1973) and decent acting and plot points throughout.
Unfortunately the ending is rushed a bit too quickly and brings the rating down. But then again it's so much better than the second installment of the trilogy that all can be forgiven and if you show this to young and impressionable children it can leave a lasting impression that'll burn into their very souls.
Give this a chance, it's not as bad as some critics may claim.
