Review of The Exorcism of Emily Rose (2005) by Peter B — 27 Oct 2009

Basically a court room drama with moments of spookiness. Its good to see a drip drop of dread in a quite recent flick rather than the usual non stop itchy and scratchy style gore. When its good it really works and has a real tense atmosphere thats genuinely creepy and freaky.

It also works well as a courtroom drama with standout performaces from trumans wife laura linney and tom wilkinson gives it the full monty and clearly gives a chuff. Dexters sister plays emily and is really put through the mill.

The discusdion is interesting too, discussing the line between mental disorder and supernatural beliefs. Its good then but never really takes flight into cinematic territory, watchable and engrissing but with the feel of a tv movie rather than a truly memorable piece of cinema.

But it definitely has freaky creepy moments within its bones. At times it feels like a dark miracle on 34th street.
