Review of The Eighth Happiness (1988) by Movie K — 27 Apr 2012

The typical, popular type of movie back in the 1980s. Have the laughs to support the movie. Jacky Cheung is a cartoonist drawing Fennie Yuen at the park when a midget expose himself at her. He chase after him but her mother Lee Heung Kam only saw Jacky chasing after Fennie (the tall bush hide the midget) and she chase after him instead.

Chow Yun-Fat is a playboy and sissy like who isn't serious in any job. 2 guys flirt with a hot babe in acting class. He act as teacher and punish them to apologise to the girl and he also kiss her.

The real teacher enter and he is expose. Raymond Wong is a cook show host and still single, always boasting his love chance meetings. The trio are brothers actually. The phone cables are all mess up in an accident.

Jacky answer a phone call and overheard a couple quarrel, the girl want to die and said her address. He rush over and enter the wrong home, which is Fennie home. The misunderstanding is resolve when Fennie saw the girl really unconscious.

Chow wanted to call one of his fling and hear another girl talking about meeting the type of guy he likes. He go to her department store to charm her (after manage to misuse Raymond car again). The girl Cherie Chung is a flirt who snub Chow at the restaurant as she have a rich boyfriend.

Chow challenge the boyfriend and smash valuable things. She want the boyfriend to follow but he don't want to so she left with Chow. Raymond want to call tow service for his wrecked car but connect to Fung Bobo.

She scold him pervert. Chow call her again to call back and Raymond answer. As he is insulted, he want Chow to disturb her every night and will not charge him for the wrecked car. Jacky meet Fennie for a game of table-tennis but lose badly to a suitor Michael Chow.

She feel bad about it. Raymond want to buy biscuits and the last tin is bought by Fung. She offer to give him but he rush off as his car is park illegally. At the studio, he boast of the chance meeting again, and is embarrass when she is her guest in show.

She invite him to see her opera performance. During it, she twist hurt her ankle. Raymond offer her see doctor and a movie date. Carol Cheng, the real girlfriend of Chow return home. Jacky feel dejected and Fennie invite him for another game.

Everyone help him defeat Michael and woo Fennie successfully. Raymond invite Fung and her son home for dinner. He also forcefully announce Chow and Carol marrying. Chow then got call from Cherie and he pretend to be angry at Carol so as to go out for Cherie.

Raymond want him to stop but Chow say it will be last fling before marriage. Jacky suggest play a game which is prank call. Fung now know he is the culprit and left. Cherie ask Chow go her home for sex.

She give him love bite. Her mother drag him into room for talk, unable to see well without glasses. When the father return home, Chow have to rush off. Carol saw the love bite and Raymond quickly lie the brothers all have such skin problem whenever it is full moon.

Jacky return home and Carol check on him, luckily he have even more love bite from Fennie. Next day Chow propose to Carol and Jacky is getting engage to Fennie too. Raymond invite Fung to Jack'ys engagement party.

Chow ask Cherie over for tryst since Carol is away at work. She appear as the job is cancel. Raymond help diffuse the situation. Then Fung also came and saw Raymond with Cherie. Both guys are wordless explain to their ladies.

Carol goes out with another suitor. Chow can't coax her back. When the ring fall into the pool, he get it but can't swim. Carol save him and he kiss her underneath and let her wear the ring. Chow got a acting role and Jacky comics is a hit.

All want to celebrate except Raymond who feels sad. Everyone want to help him and Fung together. At the charity opera, Lee had asthma and Raymond fulfill her acting role. He goes on stage perform his own apology version to Fung.

All others also don act and help Raymond explain and finally manage to let her forgive Raymond. Jacky and Fennie tour many countries. Chow and Carol had 4 kids. Raymond and Fung breaks up when her husband returns and swear never to leave again.
