Review of The Duellists (1977) by Rick S — 09 Jun 2007
Another amazing spectacle from Ridley Scott. His first film, and most likely his best. Move over Gladiator, Black Hawk Down, and Kingdom of Heaven (although I loved all those too!)-- this is Scott's masterpiece.
A truly engrossing film, The Duellists features Harvey Keitel as a stout, duel-obsessed madman who haunts a fellow soldier (Keith Carradine) for two decades in an effort to slay him in action. Set in Europe during the Napoleanic Wars, this (sadly) unknown film proves that cinema is actually a form of art.
