Review of The Divorcee (1930) by Catherine N — 14 Sep 2010
A good pre-code drama...the acting was alright and the direction was just about ok but I dont think this film is known for being a masterpiece-I think its worth watching for other reasons. Firstly, to see Norma Shearer, who isnt remembered as much sadly, I find her charming and alluring.
Secondly, it was interesting to watch because it examined the double standards that exists in society, it's a pre-code drama so one can see how Hollywood was allowed to explore topics of Infidelity, sexual freedom and feminisim more openly before the code was put in place, so I feel these films have historical significance and should be seen by classic film fans.
So, for these reasons-I found the film compelling.
