Review of The Dirty Dozen (1967) by Tristan M — 11 Jan 2014
Like the Magnificent Seven, this is a magically numbered crew of not so good guys attempting to do something honorable or heroic. It's a great WWII action romp, with Lee Marvin and Charles Bronson leading the way.
Jim Brown has one of the all time great onscreen deaths, and Telly Savalas plays a super creep who really isn't interested in any level of redemption, unlike the rest of the crew. John Cassavetes shines above the rest as the hard case of the group, in a role that earned him an Oscar nod.
It's a true genre standout.
