Review of The Death of Mr. Lazarescu (2005) by Thomas W — 24 Jul 2014

Romanian pensioner being shuffled through half the hospitals in Bucharest as he meets his demise. Bleak though the premise may be, the film is not without rewards. Many have compared it to the astonishing documentaries of Frederick Wiseman that often track human negotiation of institutional obstacles, but it's also a meditation on abandonment and lonely death.
