Review of The Day After (1983) by *As The World Falls Down* (Dani) — 16 May 2008
This is not your classic End of the World hero action adventure movie. As fun as those are, this is so much more. A movie whose breadth can be argued to be Epic in scope follows a cast of characters living in and around my home town of Kansas City, as they deal with the days leading up to and following a thermo-nuclear war between the United States and Russia.
Made during the Height of the Col War, this movie is a classic, and is highly recommended. It is the best example of what could have happened if the world had gone completely crazy. A made for TV movie in it's day, the effects are by no means stunning, but the sets and the dressing of real world locations, from the University of Kansas in Lawrence to the Liberty Memorial in Kansas City, Mo, the world is shown in such a way, that you will wonder how it did not happen.
Two thumbs, way up.
