Review of The Day After (1983) by Lady D — 19 Jun 2011
I live in Kansas and as a Kansan I would have to say this does a pretty good job of getting the reality through to those who live right in the middle of the United States. I actually know people who believe we can't be hit by nukes simply because we live in the middle of the U.S. Anyway, the movie is a very believable nuclear holocaust story. It was a television movie from ABC or something like that and back in the 80's those kinds of movies and miniseries kicked ass. I mean just look at the original V.
Back to The Day After. Pretty good acting, decent effects, lots of build up to the actual bombing. More importantly though, the realism of how most people died. Most didn't die from the actual bombing but from all the radiation that was around afterward. This movie should get a solid 5 but I can't bring myself to give it that. Sorry folks.
