Review of The Dark Knight Rises (2012) by Dean E — 26 Nov 2014
As the final piece of the trilogy, it is a good movie. However, as a stand alone movie it is just ok. This movie succeeds in its ability to tie into its predecessors creating a bigger story but it fails in its convenience.
Somewhere along the lines, perhaps on Nolan's part (I certainly hope not) or perhaps on part of the studio forcing its accessability to all audiences (likely) this movie just takes the easy way far too often.
It has the pieces in place to separate itself from other superhero movies as the first two did, however it veers to simplicity which makes things cheezy. Overall, Bane was a good villain, though a bit underwhelming in terms of the potential he had as a villain based on the source material.
A little more brilliance and deception would have made him a much stronger villain as opposed to the simple pawn that the ending makes him out to be. In the end, all things considered this is a good movie that provides an acceptable amount of entertainment.
