Review of The Dark Knight Rises (2012) by Griffin D — 31 Jan 2016

What began as a promising introduction to one of the biggest, most talked about, and most hyped films of the year, "The Dark Knight Rises" ultimately ended leaving me confused and utterly disappointed.

Beginning in the vein of the other two movies in the "Dark Knight" franchise, before the opening credits we have the introduction of the main antagonist of the film - one of Batman's many supervillains.

This time the villain turned out to be none other than "Bane", the legendary comic book character who "broke the Batman". Suffice it to say, the only kick I got out of the entire movie happened before the main title even took place.

Sadly, not too long after the Batman symbol appeared - which cleverly appeared out of cracks in ice - my overall interest in the film began to dwindle. The movie jumps from subject matter to subject matter all too quickly without much explanation, making it very difficult to follow.

I forgot I was watching a superhero movie after a while due to the lack of action, being forced instead to piece together an entire storyline on my own making do with what I could with the material being fed to me, which in the end just proved to be too much work.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that the movie didn't flow well at all, that it was just sloppy storytelling. There came a time when I didn't even care any longer about the fate of Batman, and just wanted the movie to end.

Given the rather large following and hefty budget to make this movie - the opportunity to create a grandiose, masterful conclusion to an already impressive vision of the "caped crusader" franchise - "The Dark Knight Rises" is not only the worst film in the series, but undoubtedly Christopher Nolan's worst movie to date.
