Review of The Crazies (1973) by Rob C — 28 May 2011
When a military plane carrying a bioweapon crash lands in a small town, the water suppy gets contaminated causing it's inhabitants to develop homicidal intentions. The Crazies or Code Name: Trixie surrounds itself with a healthy dose of dialogue and minimal action sequences, considering the plot of the film suggested otherwise.
George A. Romero had a good idea for The Crazies, it's just a shame it didn't run it's course effectively. Romero was in the prime of his career right off of Night of the Living Dead, with his low budget film in Hungry Wives soon following, so there wasn't an excuse for the atrocity that was The Crazies.
I wouldn't call it completely bad, it had it's moments, but they were dodgy to say the least. I wish Romero could have ran through the script a little more, his imagination was vast for this film; just poorly delivered.
