Review of The Counterfeiters (2007) by Edgar C — 02 Apr 2010
Die Fälscher is the billionth proof that if you direct either a short film or a feature film that treats the Holocaust of WWII as its main topic, you will win an Oscar. It doesn't matter if it doesn't have anything new to say. It doesn't matter if you, as a director, strongly think that making the same "depressing" war films will instantly be a sign of filmmaking success. It doesn't matter if you don't contribute to the development of modern foreign cinema and to the improvement of the genre... you will win! The only thing to be emphasized in Die Fälscher is a very talented leading role. From there, the film strongly indicates a slow downfall within this cinematic branch. It is worth-watching, but WE are already getting tired.
65/100.
