Review of The Conformist (1971) by Mike T — 22 Apr 2009
Bernardo Bertolucci's masterpiece is exceedingly great based on its visual style alone. The director's use of color, camera movement and majestic shot composition is jaw-dropping. I don't think it's too bold to say this aesthetic feast is one of the most well-shot films around.
The beauty of the picture illuminates an inventively structured and psychologically acute study of a multi-layered character. Written and directed with the skill of a true artistic genius.
