Review of The Conformist (1971) by Kevin R — 31 Dec 2015
People can be really disgusting.
Marcello is a weak willed man who graduates from college and moves to Rome where he falls in love with a hottie and joins a secret society. His first assignment in the secret society is to kill one of his old professors. He uses his honeymoon with the hottie as a chance to execute his mission.
"This, in your opinion, is a normal sex life?".
Bernardo Bertolucci, director of The Grim Reaper, Before the Revolution, Partner, Luna, 1900, The Last Emperor, Little Buddha, and The Dreamers, delivers The Conformist. The storyline for this picture is fairly mediocre with some unique twists and characters. The acting is okay for this 70s Italian picture.
"I married you because I love you, not because you're a virgin.".
I came across this on Netflix some time ago and decided to add it to the queue. The plot is interesting and well done and the characters are worth following. This isn't perfect, or a complete waste of time, but I wouldn't go too out of my way to see it.
"I must ask myself what your aim is...".
Grade: C+.
