HR Director: I'm confident all these dismissals will stand up under legal scrutiny.

Gene McClary (Tommy Lee Jones): What about ethical scrutiny.

HR Director: We're not breaking any laws, Gene.

Gene McClary(Tommy Lee Jones): I guess I always assumed were trying for a higher standard than that, Paul.

This was the scariest movie I've seen, not in the traditional horror-flick, gory kind of way but because this is set in the real world and deals with a real world situation/ problem and was just way too real. I mean, I realize that there are worst things out there in the world like the genocide in the Sudan and in other places or the human trafficking that are also real and scary, but that's still a little too far from my own situation. This movie dealt with one of my (personal) worst nightmares: dedicating your life to a job and making a life for yourself and once you think you have achieved everything and it should be smooth sailing from here on end, you lose everything! I mean, it's the reality of this generation, back in the days, when people worked at one place for as long as these guys have, the company took care of them and the employees could depend on that. But now-a-days, there is no such guarantee for the employee, one can be dismissed as quickly and as indiscriminately as if it was your first day on the job, and that is absolutely terrifying to me. I guess that's what made this movie so gripping for me, it hit a nerve and played on my own fears and paranoia. The ending was too convenient and a little too positive but this is after all a movie.
