Review of The Circus (1928) by Brian G — 20 Mar 2008
This is one of the few Chaplin films that doesn't really have any other motives behind it other than to entertain and create a joyous feeling, and by God does it deliver.
Some of the funniest acting out of this era comes from Chaplin when he overhears the fortune teller say that the girl he's fallen for is going to fall for him as well. Chaplin's euphoric physicality seems to defy physics as he floats around kicking people. It's so incredibly funny even thinking about it.
